    Undrafted cornerback Darnell Terrell held his own during the rookie minicamp the weekend after the draft, and now he will try to do the same against veterans during organized team activities.

    It is unfortunate for Terrell that Mel Tucker is the defensive coordinator and no longer defensive backs coach, because the rookie free agent from Missouri is the kind of player that could benefit from Tucker's teaching.

    Terrell is just a shade under 6-foot-2 and weighs 203 pounds. He runs a 4.49 40. Those measurables would usually be enough to get a cornerback drafted, but the negatives on Terrell were enough that teams passed on him for all seven rounds. He reportedly has difficulty changing direction to stay with a receiver and does not play well with his back to the ball.

    The Cleveland Browns signed free agent defensive back Jereme Perry to a 1-year contract Thursday to fill out their thin secondary. Perry played 12 games for the Browns in 2006 after earning a roster spot as an undrafted free agent from Eastern Michigan. He made 12 tackles and recovered one fumble. Perry played in four games on special teams for the Miami Dolphins last season.

    Kellen Winslow wouldn't be practicing anyway, but the star tight end's absence from the Cleveland Browns' organized team activities this week is notable. Unlike mini-camps, the three weeks of OTAs are not mandatory. However, players usually report so they can take part in conditioning drills and team meetings or rehab injuries.
